SP 4449 at Beavertail Tunnel

During October 2004 the Southern Pacific 4449, a Lima built 4-8-4 was the prime mover and the main attraction for a rail excursion called Montana by Steam II. The eastbound tour started in Spokane, Washington and included a three day rail excursion: Sandpoint Idaho to Missoula, Montana following the Clark Fork River, Missoula to Bozeman, Montana and Bozeman to Billings, Montana. A two day respite and then a three day return trip with the Missoula to Sandpoint leg following the Flathead River. Slide # N321-14 was taken on October 11 as the eastbound train emerged from Beavertail Tunnel near Exit 130 on I-90.
