August 25, 1996 the 844, a 4-8-4 was crossing the Cedar River after spending the night in the Beverly Yard at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The train was headed for Chicago's Elmhurst METRA Station and a series of excursions to be run out of the Chicago area.
