On Thursday morning, January 15th many locals were disappointed and railfans were sent scurrying when the Union Pacific, due to track work on the River Subdivision, rerouted the UP 3985 through Lees Summit on the Sedalia Subdivision. The Union Pacific Railroad's Challenger 4-6-6-4 Steam Locomotive was headed from Kansas City to St. Louis as it made its way to Houston, Texas on its Super Bowl XXXVIII tour schedule. Slide # N291-31 was taken at N. Harding Street as the train headed east out of Sedalia, Missouri.
